Medical Anti Shock Trousers

The Medical Anti-Shock Trouser (MAST®) applies a basic principle in a new way, helping you to cope with emergency situations that require rapid resuscitation, stabilization, and immobilization.
Principle: Counterpressure
The basic principle is the application of a counter-pressure (up to 104 torr) applied to the lower half of the body. This increases both interstitial and tissue pressure and decreases vessel size, resulting in a reduction of transmural pressure beneath the areas enclosed.
Each MAST® trouser is a self-contained easy to apply unit. Each works effectively to slow or arrest vascular bleeding, reduce potential spaces where hematomas may form, and supports central circulation by elevating peripheral resistance. Thus, more blood volume is immediately available centrally to support the vital organ systems.
MAST® has many advantages-
  • Easy and Safe- MAST® is easy and safe to apply. A well trained team is able to place and inflate the garment in 60 seconds or less. MAST® has been used in the pre-hospital and hospital environments for over 20 years. The automatic relief valves have minimized complications and have made it unnecessary to monitor garment pressures, especially in extremes of temperature and altitude.
  • MAST® is useful to immobilize and stabilize lower body muscle-skeletal injuries. MAST® minimizes movement of the structures beneath the garment, reduces hemorrhage and swelling, allowing stable patient transfer with minimal discomfort.
  • MAST® is capable of temporarily stabilizing the cardiovascular system allowing for controlled fluid therapy and evaluation.
  • Secondary assessments and diagnostic procedures may be accomplished while MAST® is inflated.
  • With MAST® applied to the lower half of the body, venous puncture sites become more accessible in the upper half of the body, allowing sites for medication, transfusions and hematological evaluation.
  • Reversible non-invasive fluid challenge-MAST® may be safely applied to evaluate and monitor patients in need of fluid therapy.
MAST®III-AT is modular and transparent, which allows emergency health personnel to observe, evaluate, and monitor the injury site, skin condition, and easy accessibility for the insertion of femoral lines.
STABILIZATION AND TRANSPORTATION
Prevention of further blood loss, directing circulating blood to the vital areas and increasing perfusion pressures by maintaining an artificial peripheral resistance, allows trauma and non-traumatic patients to be quickly stabilized. This results in further benefits more orderly transport of the patient and more accurate classification of the patient in the most critical and lesser states of injury.
The Pedi-mast® is a three chambered unit with the same design and operational characteristics as the Adult mast®.
The Pedi-mast® will fit children in a size range between 46"-58" in height and weight between 40 and 100 pounds. Pedi-mast® is available in all models.
